Pretoria Capitals made the best use of the spinning track to leave defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape in complete shambles. At one stage the score was 92/6 with Aiden Markram standing tall amidst the ruins. English all-rounder, Will Jacks showed why he is regarded as one of the best T20 players in the world.

Jacks was bowling to Tristan Stubbs as the South African tried to put the bowler under pressure. Stubbs looked like he was set to play the reverse sweep but Jacks threw the ball outside the off stump. The ball turned into the batter and disturbed the off-stump to leave Stubbs in complete shock.

It was a huge wicket as the young South African star has a reputation to strike the ball big. Earlier in the day, it was Pretoria skipper Rilee Rossouw who won the toss and chose to bowl first. Coming into the game, Sunrisers were fourth in the points table with 10 points from five matches. Capitals on the other hand have nine points from five games and are fifth in the table.

Put into bat, Sunrisers Eastern Cape lost opener Zak Crawley for a second ball duck. Jason Behrendorff had induced an edge off Crawley’s bat but the bowler just turned back to his mark. Wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne was confident about the wicket and asked Rossouw to take the review. Once DRS was taken it was seen that there was thin edge off the bat to give the visitors their first wicket.

Eathan Bosch then struck to dismiss David Bedingham (8) and Tom Abell for (6) in a space of seven balls. Will Jacks had also dismissed Jordan Hermann out LBW for nine runs from 15 balls. Marco Jansen joined Aiden Markram as the pair added 39 runs for the sixth wicket in 33 balls. James Neesham ended that partnership when he castled Jansen for 24 runs. Jansen’s knock came off 20 balls with two fours and a six.

Aiden Markram kept going as he waged battle all alone and went past his fifty. Sunrisers skipper found good support from Liam Dawson who swung his bat around in the final overs. Dawson hit Bosch for two sixes in the final over before he was dismissed for 25 runs. Sunrisers finished with 149 on the board as Aiden Markram was not out on 68 off 55 balls with five boundaries and two sixes.
