There was a lot of excitement surrounding the recently renovated Gaddafi Stadium before the 2025 Champions Trophy got underway. Three stadiums—the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, the National Stadium in Karachi, and the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore—were restored as part of PCB's $12.80 billion project, and the stadium was inaugurated with a lavish ceremony.
Nonetheless, there have been hints of subpar conditions at the venue throughout the competition. However, the brief rainstorm during the Afghanistan vs. Australia match severely damaged the outfield, forcing the game to be abandoned in Rawalpindi, bringing the truth into further focus. Now that another video of a leak on the Gaddafi Stadium restroom floor has surfaced, PCB is being widely criticized over the incident.

The stadium's poor infrastructure, where water is pouring from every angle during a brief period of rain, is shown in the startling footage. Concerns of a significant corruption scandal in Pakistani cricket have been aroused by the footage, which shows the Fazal Mahmood enclosure. Although PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has frequently boasted about finishing stadium renovations in record time, his involvement in the process is now probably going to be called into doubt.
Pakistan Cricket Board to refund tickets
After a 27-year break, Pakistan is hosting an ICC tournament, but the cricket team's performance and the subpar facilities at the stadium have left the supporters inconsolable. With two straight defeats to New Zealand and India, as well as the cancellation of their third match due to weather, the Pakistani cricket team was eliminated from the group stage.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made a big announcement that cricket fans will get all refunds of the tickets for two Champions Trophy 2025 matches at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium that were called off before a ball was played. Notably, the two games on the schedule are Bangladesh against. Pakistan (February 27) and Australia vs. South Africa (February 25).
