Former India skipper Virat Kohli continued his poor form with the bat as he was out for just five runs during the second ODI against England on Sunday. Kohli had missed the first match of the series due to a knee injury before recovering in time to play the second match. The 36-year-old delighted the crowd with a tremendous on-drive to score his first boundary.

Adil Rashid then bowled a terrific ball that spun away from Kohli as Phil Salt caught the ball and let out a huge roar. Jos Buttler was quick to go for the review for caught behind. Once the replays came on the screen, there was a spike seen off Kohli’s bat. The TV umpire asked the on-field official to overturn the call.

The crowd, which had cheered Kohli as he walked to the wicket, fell into stunned silence after he was dismissed. Questions will be asked about Kohli’s batting form with just 10 days left for the Champions Trophy 2025. India’s former skipper had failed with the bat during his Ranji Trophy return as he was out for just six runs.

Is Virat Kohli facing steady decline across formats?

After scoring his 30th Test ton against Australia during the Perth Test match, Kohli has failed to get going with the bat. In his last ODI series, Kohli managed to score just 58 runs from three games against Sri Lanka. In 2023, the former India skipper had scored 1377 runs from 27 matches and also became the leading century maker in ODI cricket.

Current skipper Rohit Sharma on the other hand scored his 32nd ODI ton before he was out for 119 runs. His knock came off mere 90 balls with the help of 12 fours and seven sixes. Liam Livingstone was the bowler who dismissed Rohit Sharma as Adil Rashid took a difficult catch.

The final ODI match of the series is set to be played in Ahmedabad on Wednesday before the team departs for Dubai. Virat Kohli will hope to do his best with the bat and score huge runs to find his form before the all-important ICC tournament.
