In the fifth ball of the 16th over which was bowled by Riyan Parag, the veteran cricketing icon reached the mark. Dhoni swung the ball straight down the ground to give glimpses of his old self with the bat to reach 350 career sixes in T20 cricket. The shot also gave CSK fans something to cheer about considering the uncertainty regarding Dhoni’s IPL career.

Rajasthan Royals bowlers came out all guns blazing and destroyed CSK’s top order. Devon Conway and Urvil Patel fell early in a space of three balls in just the second over of the game. R. Ashwin came out to bat at number four and added 56 runs for the third wicket with Ayush Mhatre in just 23 balls.

Mhatre slammed eight fours and a six in his brutal knock off 43 while Ashwin scored 13 runs from just eight balls with one four and one six. Mhatre fell in the fifth ball of the final over before the powerplay overs. This was followed by Ashwin being dismissed by Hasaranga and Jadeja losing his wicket for just one run.

CSK’s middle-order comes to the fore once again

After losing half their side for practically nothing, it was Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube’s 59 run stand that saved the blushes. Brevis in particular was in a very dangerous mood with the bat scoring 25-ball 42. Akash Madhwal got Brevis’ wicket to earn RR the breakthrough.

Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni then added 43 runs for the seventh wicket in 33 balls. Dube was out after scoring 39 off 32 balls with two fours and equal number of sixes. The left-handed batter was dismissed by Madhwal to pick up his second wicket. In the end, CSK scored 187 on the board from their 20 overs.
