South African batter Dewald Brevis continued his fine run of form for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025 season in the game against Rajasthan Royals (RR). Brevis who was signed on as a replacement for pacer Gurjapneet Singh scored 42 off just 25 balls at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday night. The best shot of the day was played by Brevis off Kwena Maphaka’s bowling.
The incident occurred in the fifth ball of the ninth over with Maphaka bowling over the wicket to Brevis. The young pacer delivered the ball on Brevis’ pads and the batter didn’t need a second invite. 22-year-old Brevis played the perfect no-look flick shot as the ball sailed over the ropes for a massive six.
CSK were struggling at one stage being placed at 78 for five inside eight overs. Yudhvir Singh’s three wicket burst had left Chennai struggling despite Ayush Mhatre’s brisk 43 which came off just 20 balls. The right-arm pacer had earlier removed Devon Conway for ten and Urvil Patel for a duck.
Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube pull CSK back into the contest
Having lost five early wickets, CSK were in need of a partnership to stem the rot. Brevis and Shivam Dube joined forces to add 59 runs for the sixth wicket in just six overs. Brevis scored his first four in the first ball of the eighth over before hitting the no look six off Maphaka.
CSK got to their 100 in the 10th over when the South African batter hit Riyan Parag for a four and followed it up with his second six off the innings. Shivam Dube also began to attack the bowlers as the duo began to rebuild the innings for Chennai. Despite losing five wickets, CSK didn’t let their run-rate dip as they scored at over ten runs per over.
Just when Brevis was looking dangerous he lost his wicket in fourth ball of the 14th over. Brevis’ former Mumbai Indians teammate Akash Madhwal got the key wicket to bring an end to a very dangerous stand.
