Young batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi made an immediate impact with the bat on his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut on Saturday. The left-handed batter scored 34 runs off just 20 balls with two boundaries and three sixes in his knock. On the very first ball of his IPL career, Suryavanshi hit Shardul Thakur for a huge six.
Aiden Markram, however, broke the opening stand worth 85 runs in the fourth ball of the ninth over. The South African bowler held his length back and delivered a slower ball to beat Suryavanshi for pace. The batter tried to hit the ball to the leg side and missed. Rishabh Pant, though, was quick to whip off the bails as the umpire sent it upstairs for review.
Once the replays came on the big screen, it was seen that Suryavanshi’s leg hadn’t been grounded. The youngster was given out stumped as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) finally had their first wicket of the game. Cameras panned to the departing Suryavanshi, who could be seen wiping off tears from his eyes after his dismissal.
Yashasvi Jaiswal's fifty drives Rajasthan Royals off to powerful start
Lucknow Super Giants batted first after Rishabh Pant won the toss. Aiden Markram top scored with 66 runs and added 76 runs for the fourth wicket with Ayush Badoni, who scored 50. The finishing touches to the innings were given by Abdul Samad, who was not out on 30 off just 10 balls with four huge sixes.
Sandeep Sharma, who bowled the final over, was hit for 27 runs to help LSG reach 180 on the board. Samad destroyed Sharma’s bowling figures by hitting the veteran pacer for four maximums. The veteran pacer ended his night with figures of 1/55 from four overs. The best bowler for RR was Wanindu Hasaranga, who picked up 2/31 from four overs.
Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal matched Suryavanshi stroke for stroke as he latched onto the bad deliveries. Jaiswal got to his third successive fifty of the IPL 2025 season with a single off Aiden Markram on the first ball of the ninth over. Shardul Thakur was hit for a six by Nitish Rana, but the bowler had the last laugh after he dismissed the batter in the very next ball. At that stage, RR were placed at 94 for two after ten overs, still needing 87 to win from 60 balls.
