It was a historic occasion for the United States of America cricket team on Friday. Monank Patel and his side qualified for the Super-8 stage of the T20 World Cup after the game against Ireland was washed out. This was the first time the USA was co-hosting an ICC event, and in their maiden appearance, they made it to the next phase of the tournament.

Once the game was called off, there was a celebration in the USA camp. Fast bowler Ali Khan was seen interviewing his teammates in a video shared by ICC on their official Instagram handle.

Aaron Jones, who scored a match-winning 94 in the first game against Canada, shared his delight with Ali Khan. The right-handed batter called it a dream to make it to the next phase of the tournament.

‘Dream come true’ for USA Cricket

Being placed in Group A along, with heavyweight sides like India and Pakistan, the USA team played outstanding cricket. In their first game of the campaign, they chased down the score of 195 runs to register a huge win.

Aaron Jones scored an unbeaten 94 from 40 balls with 10 huge sixes to help his side win the contest. Their biggest test awaited them in their next game as they took on Pakistan. Monank Patel’s 50 and Aaron Jones yet again did well to tie the game and take it to the super over. The Pakistanis failed to chase down the 19 runs needed to win to create a huge upset.

In the game against India, the USA team did well to score 110 on a difficult wicket. Suryakumar Yadav’s 50 and Arshdeep Singh’s 4/9 showed that the bridge was too far against the professional men in the blue side.

Their final game of the campaign was against Ireland which ended without a ball being bowled. With 5 points from four games with 2 wins and one loss, the United States of America have finally made their mark in international cricket.

Even before the start of the T20 World Cup, the Americans had beaten a full-fledged Bangladesh side in a 3-match series. The Americans will begin their Super-8 Campaign with the game against South Africa on 19th June in Antigua.

After that challenging match, the USA will then take on West Indies on the 21st of June in Barbados. Their final Super-8 stage match is likely to be against Australia who will end as the Group B table toppers if they beat Scotland.
