19th September 2007 will always be a special day for cricket fans, especially fans from India. It was on this day that Yuvraj Singh became the first batter to smash six sixes in an over in the T20I format. The game between India and England achieved legendary status thanks to this feat in the inaugural World Cup that was played in 2007.

The entire incident started after Yuvraj Singh and Andrew Flintoff exchanged words. Umpire Billy Doctrove and skipper MS Dhoni calmed the Indian star before the matter could escalate. Yuvraj Singh to his credit focused more on his batting to create history with the bat.

What happened next was magical and historic in the annals of Indian cricket. Yuvraj Singh not only hit six sixes in an over but also scored the fastest ever fifty in the history of T20 cricket.

Yuvraj Singh’s blitz creates scare for Stuart Broad

After the argument with Flintoff, an enraged Yuvraj Singh began by clearing his leg to smash Broad deep into the cow corner. The second six was flicked over the square leg region. The cameras panned to Andrew Flintoff as the England star had a bemused look on his face.

Stuart Broad continued from over the wicket as Yuvraj Singh slammed him over the long-off region for the 3rd six. The fourth six of the over came when Yuvraj Singh hit the ball over the point region as the England team were left clueless.

Paul Collingwood was seen having a word with the bowler who switched back to over the wicket. It didn’t matter as the outcome was the same with a fifth six in five balls to increase excitement in the stands. The final six of the over came Yuvraj yet again cleared his leg to deposit the ball into the stands.

During a chat with Kevin Pietersen, when the Indian star was asked to reveal what Flintoff had said, Yuvraj Singh said, “That was a lucky shot, I’m gonna cut your throat off”. The Indian star replied, “You see this bat? You know where I’m gonna hit you with it.”

Yuvraj Singh also went onto say to Flintoff’s former teammate, “When someone says something like that to you, the adrenaline kicks in, I was so angry. That anger helped me hit those six sixes”. The former Indian star while chatting with ICC had said that MS Dhoni had said, “After I hit the final six, MS said to me ‘everytime you come out bat after me, your strike rate is double’."

Former England bowler Stuart Broad when remembering the incident had said, “Yeah, it was obviously a pretty tough day, what would I have been, 21, 22? I learned a lot, I pretty much based a whole mental routine through that experience, knowing that I was left very short as an international performer. I'd rushed my preparation, I didn't have any pre-ball routine, I didn't have any focus.”
