Suryakumar Yadav won the toss for the second successive time and chose to bowl first. Jos Buttler top scored with 45 runs while Brydon Carse playing his first game of the series scored 31 off 17 balls. The best bowlers for the home side were Axar Patel and Varun Chakravarthy who picked two wickets each as England scored 165/9 from their 20 overs.

Abhishek Sharma was out for 12 runs as he was sent back to the hut by Mark Wood in the second over. Jofra Archer then got the wicket of Sanju Samson for second successive game for five runs. Suryakumar Yadav scored 12 before he edged the ball back onto his stumps against Brydon Carse. Dhruv Jurel and Hardik Pandya were out soon after to leave the hosts reeling at 78/5 in the 10th over.

Washington Sundar and Varma added 38 runs for the sixth wicket that brought India back into the game. Carse struck for a third time to dismiss Sundar for 26 off 19 balls with three fours and a six. Tilak Varma though kept his cool as he took India to close win to take 2-0 lead in the series.

Speaking at the end of the game, the young batter said “Wicket was slightly two-paced. I was talking with Gautam sir yesterday, he said that, 'whatever happens, you should play according to the situation, you should be flexible.' Left-right will be a good option to bat out there, and it'll be slightly difficult for the bowlers as they should change their lines and lengths”

Suryakumar Yadav said “A little bit of relief with the way the game was going. We felt 160 was good. They bowled really well, good that that the game went down to the wire. We've been playing with an extra batter since the last 2-3 series. We want that cushion and also that batter gives us 2-3 overs in the game. Very happy with the way Tilak batted, good to see someone like him taking responsibility”
