The incident happened in the second ball of the 17th over with Chakravarthy bowling to Buttler. The 34-year-old had begun the over well with a huge six against the 33-year-old. In the next ball, Chakravarthy bowled a short ball that Buttler tried to pull past the square leg region. Nitish Kumar Reddy flung himself and took a low diving catch.

TV umpire spotted the youngster had his fingers under the ball and gave the decision in favor of the home team. Buttler had scored 68 runs from 44 balls with the help of eight boundaries and two sixes. Varun Chakravarthy had also dismissed Harry Brook for 17 and Liam Livingstone for a duck to leave the visitors in tatters.

Indian bowlers come up with clinical performance in Kolkata

England were put into bat first after Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav won the toss. Arshdeep Singh gave the hosts good star when he first dismissed Phil Salt for a duck and followed it up with the wicket of Ben Duckett for four runs. 48-runs were added for the third wicket between Buttler and Brook as the pair looked to put the bowlers under pressure.

After losing two wickets in a single over against Varun Chakravarthy, Jacob Bethell joined his skipper in the middle. The pair tried to play smart cricket but the Indian bowlers kept a tight lid on the scoring as boundaries were hard to come by. Hardik Pandya struck when he dismissed Bethell for seven runs caught by Abhishek Sharma.

The visitors were bowled out for 132 runs in the last ball of the final over as Mark Wood was run-out in the last ball. The best bowler for India was Varun Chakravarthy with figures of 3/22 from his four overs. Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya, and Axar Patel finished with two wickets each while Ravi Bishnoi went wicketless.
