Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) swatted aside Chennai Super Kings to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) game by eight wickets. It was a one-sided encounter as the visiting side got to the target with 59 balls to spare and climbed to third spot in the table. Veteran star Sunil Narine was best batter for KKR as he hit 44 runs from just 18 balls. The left-handed batter hit two fours and five sixes in his knock while the entire CSK side has managed to hit just one six.

Needing 104 runs to win the game, Narine began by hitting Khaleel Ahmed for his first six in the final ball of the opening over. Quinton de Kock then hit three sixes in his knock before he was castled by debutant Anshul Kamboj for 23 runs of just 16 balls. Narine though didn’t stop as he welcomed R. Ashwin with a boundary and then hit a huge six in the same over.

In the final over of the powerplay, Khaleel Ahmed was hit for 18 runs as Narine and Rahane hit a six each before the West Indian finished the over with a four. By the end of six overs, KKR were placed at 71/1 in sharp contrast to CSK’s 31 runs for the loss of two wickets at the same stage.

Disastrous day for MS Dhoni and his CSK side

Ashwin ‘s second over saw Narine open his arms as the batter hit two successive sixes. Noor Ahmad finally ended the knock when he went past Narine’s defense to give KKR their second wicket. Rinku Singh was sent out to bat at number four and the youngster finished the game in style.

Ravindra Jadeja was brought into bowl the 11th over and the veteran spinner began his spell with a no-ball. In the resulting free-hit Rinku hit the bowler for a huge six to finish the game with nearly ten overs to spare. The massive loss not only dents CSK’s run-rate but also puts more pressure on the former champions.

This loss also means that CSK for the first time in their IPL history have lost three successive games at home. Chennai next head play Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium while KKR will head to Mullanpur Stadium to take on the Punjab Kings on 15th April.
