WATCH: Steve Smith smashes blistering half century for Sydney Sixers against Strikers in BBL 2024-25

The veteran batter Steve Smith is currently in action for the Sydney Sixers in the ongoing Big Bash League 2024-25. Smith showcased his batting heroics and blistering batting against the Adelaide Strikers in the 35th game of the tournament’s current edition. The batter also won the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his match-winning knock.

Smith’s knock also established a strong foundation for the Sixers while chasing the target of 183 runs in the second innings.

Speaking of the action of the match, the Sixers’ skipper Moises Henriques won the toss and asked the Strikers to bat first. Batting first, the hosts posted a decent total of 182 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Ollie Pope scored a crucial half-century, scoring 57 runs off 39 balls, with three fours and two sixes.

Pope’s half-century was followed by Alex Ross’ 48 runs off 37 balls, with 4 fours and a six. Later in the end, Jamie Overton played an unbeaten and blistering knock of 32 runs off just 14 balls, with three fours and a six.

While chasing the target, Sydney Sixers crossed the line in 19.5 overs, scoring 183 runs for the loss of 7 wickets and winning the match by 3 wickets. Besides Smith’s swashbuckling half-century, Lachlan Shaw and Ben Dwarshuis also scored 32 and 30 runs, respectively to help the Sixers chase the target and win the match.

With this win, the Sixers have moved to the top spot on the tournament standings, winning six games while losing only two, alongside a ‘no-result’ game in their nine games. They currently have 13 points to their name in the tally.
