Indian batter Shreyas Iyer has sent a huge headache to the national selectors. The 29-year-old is playing in the Buchi Babu tournament for Mumbai. During the game versus Tamil Nadu XI, the star batter was out to a short ball.

The incident happened in the 2nd innings when Shreyas Iyer received a short ball from around the wicket. Looking to play the pull, Iyer didn’t time the ball well and was caught by the fielder as the opposition players celebrated wildly.

Mumbai lost the match by a huge margin and are currently at the bottom of their group. During the game, Suryakumar Yadav also injured himself as he was hit on his hand just days before the Duleep Trophy 2024 tournament.

Suryakumar Yadav gets hit on his hands

Indian T20 skipper Suryakumar Yadav was fielding for Mumbai when he injured himself while trying to stop the ball. The 33-year-old was in visible pain as the medical unit came out and Yadav then made his way back to the dugout.

Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik are already out of the Duleep Trophy tournament due to illness. Ravindra Jadeja on the other hand has been let go due to unspecified reasons just days before the tournament.

Suryakumar Yadav was looking to make his comeback to the Test side after playing just one game in 2023. Speaking to the media ahead of the Duleep Trophy, Yadav had said, “What is in my power right now is to play the Buchi Babu tournament, go on to play the Duleep Trophy and then see what happens."

"But yes, I'm really looking forward. There are ten Test matches lined up and I'm obviously excited for some red-ball fun," added Suryakumar Yadav regarding his aspirations to play Test cricket.

Meanwhile, former Indian star Suresh Raina feels that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should have played Duleep Trophy 2024. Speaking to Sports Tak, the former India star said, “They should have played. We have not played any red-ball cricket after the IPL. If you are going for a big series, you need to play red-ball cricket. I think they are all mature enough and they know how they need to practice once they regroup. Sometimes family time is very important."
