Barbados Royals moved to the top of the table of Caribbean Premier League 2024 on Saturday. Rovman Powell and his men beat Guyana Amazon Warriors by 32 runs. Shimron Hetmyer set pulses racing with an amazing dance move after taking the catch of Rovman Powell.

The incident in question happened in the 3rd ball of the 15th over. Dwaine Pretorius bowled a slower ball to the Royals skipper. Powell tried to smash the ball but didn’t time it well. Shimron Hetmyer settled under the ball took the catch and did a special dance move to celebrate the wicket.

Quinton De Kock scored a terrific ton to help his side score 205 on the board. In reply, Guyana could muster just 173 on the board for the loss of five wickets. Guyana are now second in the table with Trinbago Knight Riders and Saint Lucia Kings in 3rd and 4th spots.

The South African deliver an easy win for Barbados Royals

Guyana skipper Shai Hope won the toss and bowled first. Kadeem Alleyne gave the home a blistering star before falling to Pretorius for 22 off 9 balls. Quinton De Kock though kept going as he smashed the Warriors bowlers to all parts of the ground.

Barbados kept losing wickets at the other end but the South African star couldn’t be stopped. The veteran star scored 115 off 68 balls with the help of 8 fours and 9 sixes. He was given good support by Jason Holder who was not out on 28 off 10 balls.

Chasing 206 to win, the visitors lost Azam Khan early for 3 dismissed by Jason Holder. The best bowler for the home team was Keshav Maharaj who picked 3/32 from his 4 overs. His wickets included that of Tim Robinson, Shimron Hetmyer, and Moeen Ali.

At the end of the game, skipper Rovman Powell said “The game was done before the last over. To restrict such a powerful team was terrific work. Someone within our top five had to bat long and deep and fortunately, Quinton scored one of the better T20 hundreds”

Losing skipper Shai Hope said “I think we probably gave away 20-30 runs more eventually but we had the firepower in our batting lineup. It was a bit difficult to strike the ball as it was gripping. We have to look at the areas to improve and do so.”
