The World Cup Champion Sanju Samson flexed his muscle power during the fifth and final T20I of the five-match series between India and Zimbabwe on Sunday. The keeper-batter slammed a monstrous 110m six against Zimbabwe spinner Brandon Mavuta to dispatch the ball over the roof and out of the ground in Harare.

Having already won the series 3-1, India are now aiming to end the tour on a high note. However, they did not have a good start to their innings after being invited to bat first. The opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, who missed a well-deserved century in the previous match by just 7 runs, was dismissed in the very first over.

With captain Shubman Gill and the in-form Abhishek Sharma returning to the pavilion without contributing much, India were reduced to 40-3 at the end of the fifth over. For a moment, it looked like India would suffer the same fate as in the series opener, where they lost by 14 runs.

However, Samson and his Rajasthan Royals (RR) teammate Riyan Parag were able to steady the ship and bring India back into the game. Both added a partnership of 65 runs for the fourth wicket. In the 12th over, Samson hit Mavuta for a 110m six straight down the ground that saw the ball travel out of the park.

Samson’s half-century, Shivam Dube’s blazing finish give India competitive total

Riyan Parag struggled to keep the run rate in check and fell in the 15th over after making 22 off 24 balls. Notably, he replaced Ruturaj Gaikwad who played decently in the previous matches. Meanwhile, Samson continued his fine form and made a brilliant half-century.

The RR skipper scored 58 off 45 balls with the help of four sixes and one four. He was dismissed by Blessing Muzarabani in the 18th over. Later, Shivam Dube played a quick-fire knock to help India reach a competitive total of 167-6 in 20 overs.
