T20 World Cup winners India managed to easily swat aside the Zimbabwean challenge to win the T20I series against Zimbabwe. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the hero with the bat as the young Indian opener scored 93 not out. The home team bowlers had no change as the young opener scored boundaries at will.
Shubman Gill won the toss yet again and this time chose to bowl first. Tushar Deshpande made his debut for India as he replaced Avesh Khan in the playing XI. Zimbabwe made on change as they got Faraz Akram in place of Wellington Masakadza.
Put into bat first the Zimbabwean openers did well with the bat as they put the Indian bowlers under pressure. The men in blue were shabby in the field, which also included an easy dropped catch by Ruturaj Gaikwad. In the end, the Indian bowlers pegged things back under control to limit the hosts to 152 on the board.
Team India cruised home to yet another series win
Wesley Madhevere and T. Marumani went after the Indian bowlers to add 63 for the 1st wicket inside 9 overs. The pair were unforgiving on anything short and wide as they kept the boundaries ticking. Abhishek Sharma got the 1st wicket when he had Marumani caught by Rinku Singh for 32. This was followed by Shivam Dube getting rid of Madhevere out for 25.
Washington Sundar then struck when he had the big wicket of Brian Bennett for 9. Sikandar Raza was given an early life when Ruturaj Gaikwad failed to hold onto an easy catch. The Zimbabwean skipper was the best batter with 46 runs from 28 balls with 2 fours and three sixes. For India Khaleel Ahmed was the best bowler with 2/32 from 4 overs while the rest of the bowlers barring Ravi Bishnoi picked a wicket each.
Needing 153 to win, the Indian batters went after the Zimbabwean bowlers. Yashasvi Jaiswal in particular was severe on every bowler as he played delightful shots across the field. Shubman Gill on the other hand made sure that he gave good company to his younger partner. The Indian skipper scored his second successive fifty of the series as India won the match with ten wickets in hand and 4.4 overs left to play.
