Indian wicketkeeper Sanju Samson has been in the news recently for being snubbed from the ODI side. The 30-year-old decided to take out his frustration on England pacer Gus Atkinson during the second over of the Indian innings. Chasing 133 to win, India scored just one run in the opening over that was bowled by Jofra Archer.

Gus Atkinson was given the second over and bowled a short ball that Samson pulled past square-leg region for a four. The next ball, the bowler pitched the ball up to the batter as Samson planted his foot across and played a perfect cover drive. Atkinson bowled a dot ball but Samson was just getting started.

In the fourth ball, Samson came down the track and flat batted the bowler over the covers for a huge six. By this time, the England pacer was in huge pressure and in the next ball, Samson played a neat clip off his pads for a four. In the final ball of the second over, India’s wicketkeeper and batter played a neat clip of his legs for a four to score 22 runs of the over.

Sanju Samson’s father gets emotional over ODI snub

Viswanath Samson was speaking to Sports Tak when he got emotional about Sanju not being picked for the ODI side. The 30-year-old wasn’t considered for selection for the upcoming fifty-over series against England and the Champions Trophy tournament. It is to be noted that Samson scored a century in his last ODI appearance for India in 2023.

Samson’s father during his chat with Sports Tak said, “We have never done anything to provoke Kerala Cricket Association. We have not hurt anybody with our statements. But we have been facing trouble since the last 10 to 12 years. I don't know the reason. Sanju's big brother Saly Samson was great performer for Kerala too. He was picked for the one-day camp. But he did not get much chance.”

The cricketer’s father also went onto say, “I knew about six months ago that they are planning something against Sanju. KCA were plotting things in a way that he leaves Kerala. We can't fight with them. There are directors there, we are small people. You can't talk back to them, you can't challenge them. My child is not safe here. They will put the blame on Sanju for everything and people will believe them too. So, I really want that my son stops playing cricket for Kerala. If any state wants to give my son a chance, saying 'Sanju, come and play for us', I am willing to make that appeal.”
