The controversy over India not being ready to sport Pakistan’s name on their jersey is finally over. According to reports, BCCI has agreed to have the name of the host nation printed on their jerseys. The move comes after it was noted that BCCI had put their foot down over the issue and weren’t ready to sport the host nation’s name.
Newly elected BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia, while speaking to PTI, said, “BCCI will follow every uniform-related ICC rule during Champions Trophy. Whatever the other teams will do regarding the logo and dress code, we are going to follow in true letter and spirit.”
Meanwhile, Saikia also said that Rohit Sharma’s travel to Pakistan for the pre-tournament photo shoot is uncertain. “Whether Rohit Sharma travels to Pakistan for ICC media engagements is something that's still not decided." As per reports, BCCI had asked the ICC to move the pre-tournament ceremonies to Dubai, where they will play their matches.
One unnamed ICC source, while speaking to the media, said, “It is the responsibility of every team to add the tournament logo to their jerseys. All teams are obligated to comply with this rule." Perhaps this is the reason why Indian Cricket Board has decided to toe the line.
Jos Buttler speaks out on playing Afghanistan during Champions Trophy
England skipper Jos Buttler addressed the media ahead of the opening T20I against India. The 34-year-old was asked if his side were set to play Afghanistan during the event. There were calls from Britain to boycott the game during the upcoming Champions Trophy tournament.
Buttler said, “Political situations like this, as a player, you're trying to be as informed as you can be. The experts know a lot more about it, so I've been trying to stay in dialogue with Rob Key and the guys above to see how they see it. I don't think a boycott is the way to go about it.”
The 34-year-old also added, “There's been some good stuff written about it that I've tapped into and I've spoken to quite a few people to try to gather expert opinion. I'm led by those experts in situations like this. But certainly, as a player, you don't want political situations to affect sport. We hope to go to the Champions Trophy and play that game and have a really good tournament.”
