India A beat India D by a massive 184 runs to win the game in the 2nd round of Duleep Trophy 2024. Sanju Samson was one of the star attractions for the capacity crowd that had come to watch the game in Anantapur. 

29-year-old Samson was out early for 5 runs in the first innings of the game. On Sunday, Sanju Samson strode to the wicket with attacking intent. The final ball of Tanush Kotian’s over saw the right-handed batter step down the wicket and hit the ball for a six. 

The ball traveled outside the stadium as the fans made a beeline to throw the ball back into the ground. In the previous over Shams Mulani was given the same treatment as the ball bounced off the top of the roof before coming back to the ground.

Ricky Bhui’s century goes in vain as India A register huge win 

India D were tasked with an enormous 487 runs to win the game. 27-year-old batter Ricky Bhui was the best batter for India D with 113 runs. The knock came off 195 balls with 14 fours and 3 sixes. 

Shreyas Iyer looked like getting back into form as he scored 41 runs. His knock was ended by Shams Mulani who disturbed the stumps. Sanju Samson came out with more positive approach post the lunch break. The 29-year-old scored 40 before he edge behind to Kumar Kushagra off Shams Mulani. 

Saurabh Kumar (22) and Harshit Rana (24) tried to delay the inevitable. The two batters though were dismissed by Tanush Kotian to bring the end closer. Riyan Parag picked the final wicket when he had Vidwath Kaverappa caught by Pratham Singh for a duck. 

India A skipper Mayank Agarwal speaking at the end of the game said “Very happy with the win. The way we played in the first innings after the first session changed the game for us. The way we bowled in the first innings set it up for us”

Shams Mulani was given player of the match who said “It was tough in this heat. I am used to it. I wanted to replicate what I do for my state team. Discipline while batting helped me a lot”

Losing skipper Shreyas Iyer was heard saying “The way their batters batted in the second innings was superb. 488 on a given day is not an easy task. We were calculating in our minds how to go about it. We will look to have a good contest in the next game”
