Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson has joined the rest of the Rajasthan Royals squad ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The 30-year-old suffered an injury to his finger during the T20I series vs. England. Samson scored a mere 51 runs from five games with an average of 10.2 runs per innings. Rahul Dravid, who has joined RR as the coach of the side, will hope to lead his side to the title win for the first time since 2008.
The Royals will kick off their IPL 2025 campaign with a tough first fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The match will be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday. After this, RR will travel to Guwahati, where they play their first few home games of the season.

IPL’s inaugural winners have made their team stronger by signing star names like Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana. England pacer Jofra Archer, who started his IPL career with RR, is back home for the 2025 season. The Royals have also signed Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who is the youngest player in the history of the league.
Former India gives his take on RR ahead of IPL 2025
Aakash Chopra, took to his YouTube channel and questioned the Rajasthan Royals over their strategy ahead of the new season. The Royals had let go of Trent Boult and Jos Buttler, along with Indian spin duo Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin. It is expected that Sanju Samson could open the batting with Yashasvi Jaiswal now that Buttler is no longer around.
The former India batter said, “They lost four of their biggest players, but the replacements aren’t even close to them. It’s a completely Indian batting lineup, apart from Shimron Hetmyer. You didn’t pick any overseas batter, which is quite surprising.”
“Most teams have a strong all-rounder who allows flexibility in team combinations. Rajasthan didn’t have that last year, and it looks like they’re in the same position again. Hasaranga is not really an all-rounder at the IPL level. He has done well with the ball at times, but as a batter, he hasn’t fired,” further added the 47-year-old former India batter.
