Indian cricket legend Rahul Dravid has joined Rajasthan Royals’ training camp ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The 52-year-old came to the camp in crutches after suffering injury while playing third division game. Dravid has batted a few times with his youngest son Anvay in a local tournament in Karnataka.
The 52-year-old was named as the coach of Rajasthan Royals after coaching India to T20 World Cup glory in June. In his playing days, Dravid had led the side for a few seasons before hanging up his boots. After retirement the former India captain was named the coach of Rajasthan Royals for two season before heading over to NCA.
Royals who won the title in 2008 will be looking to start the season on a high as they play their first few games in Guwahati. Sanju Samson and his side kick off their campaign with an away game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 23rd March, followed by home games against KKR and CSK in Guwahati.
‘Letting Buttler go a challenging decision’ – Sanju Samson
Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson spoke to JioHotstar where he said that letting Jos Buttler go was a tough decision. England’s former skipper Buttler was a key player for the Royals at the top of the order and will play for Gujarat Titans in the 2025 season. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Buttler had formed a good partnership at the top of the order for the Royals.
Samson during his chat on JioHotstar said, “The IPL gives you the opportunity to lead a team and play at the highest level, and it also allows you to build close friendships. Jos Buttler is one of my closest friends. We played together for seven years. During this time, our batting partnership time itself is so long that we got to know each other so well. He has been like an elder brother to me. Whenever I had a doubt, I would talk to him. When I became captain, he was my vice-captain and helped me become a good captain.”
Rajasthan's skipper went onto add, “Letting him go has been one of the most challenging decisions for me. During the England series, I told him over dinner that I was still not over it. If I could change one thing in the IPL, I would change the rule of releasing players every three years. While it has its positives, on a personal level, you lose that connect, that relation you built over years. He was a part of the family. What more can I say?"
