Rishabh Pant’s shambolic IPL 2025 season for Lucknow Super Giants continued when he was out for just seven runs. The left-handed batter was dismissed when Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Eshan Malinga produced a stunning return catch in the final ball of the 12th over of the innings. Pant who was brought for INR 27 Crores has been going through a lean phase with the bat and has been called out by critics.

In the previous ball, Pant had pulled the pacer for a boundary before Malinga had the last laugh. The pacer deceived Pant into playing the shot early as the ball took the edge of the ant flew to Malinga. The Sri Lankan held his nerve and held onto the catch to give SRH a huge wicket. Pant was out after scoring seven runs from just six balls and endured the long walk back to the pavilion.

Cameras then caught LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka leaving his chair with a disappointed look on his face. This isn’t the first time that the LSG owner has been under focus this season. Pant’s repeated failures with the bat has seen many experts and fans question Goenka over his decision to pay over the odds for the struggling India player.

Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram power LSG to fast start

Put into bat by Pat Cummins in a key encounter, LSG saw their opening pair of Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh come good. The duo got things going by scoring 69 unbeaten runs in the first six overs of the game. Marsh in particular was aggressive with the bat hitting Pat Cummins and Harsh Dubey for boundaries at regular intervals.

SRH fielders showed rust as Ishan Kishan dropped Marsh twice that allowed the Aussie batter to register yet another fifty for the season. Marsh and Markram 115 for the first wicket in 10.3 overs. That stand was ended when debutant Harsh Dubey had Marsh caught by Cummins for 65 runs.

By the end of 15 overs, LSG had managed to score 146 on the board for the loss of two wickets. Markram got to his fifth fifty of the season with a single off Nitish Reddy who was bowling his first over of the campaign. Focus will turn back to Pant when LSG comes out to bowl as the home team needs a win to keep their IPL playoffs hopes alive.
