Cricket sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been in the news since his 35-ball ton against Gujarat Titans (GT) earlier in the week. The left-handed batter not only became the youngest centurion in IPL history but also the fastest Indian batter to achieve this feat. At the age of 14, Suryavanshi has become one of the biggest talking points in world cricket.
Meanwhile, Samastipur, where the youngster hails from, has seen one local put out a video thrashing claims that Suryavanshi is 14 years old. The unnamed local said that the batter is 16 years old and also claims to have played cricket with him in his formative years. In the same video, the local also praised the cricketer’s father for all the hardship he went through to make his son a player.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi was out for a duck in the game against Mumbai Indians on Thursday. Deepak Chahar dismissed the young batter caught by Will Jacks while Rajasthan Royals were chasing 218 runs to win. RR lost the game by 100 runs to be knocked out of the IPL 2025 playoff race.
Rohit Sharma encourages Vaibhav Suryavanshi after latter’s flow show with bat
Former MI skipper Rohit Sharma scored his third fifty in four innings, which played a key role in the team’s win. The 38-year-old was seen having a few words with the young batter at the end of the game and motivating him to do better. Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri, who was on commentary duties for the host broadcaster, remarked, “He will learn. Encouraging words from Rohit Sharma there, as well.”
Ravi Shastri also added, “Every MI player went past him had a couple of words to say. You don't need those kinds of players everyday. 14-year-old, scoring a hundred. Today, he got out on 0, but such is the game. That's what he will learn.”
Barring the 30 scored by Jofra Archer, none of the RR batters managed to put up a fight. Rajasthan Royals will next play Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday at the Eden Gardens stadium. Mumbai Indians will be getting ready to host Gujarat Titans in the return fixture at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday. One more win will confirm MI’s passage into the playoffs.
