Chennai Super Kings (CSK) began their Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign with the huge clash against Mumbai Indians. English all-rounder Sam Curran, who made his return to CSK after a stint with the Punjab Kings (PBKS), made a meal of a chance in the seventh over of the innings.
The incident happened when Tilak Varma was facing Ravindra Jadeja in the fourth ball of the seventh over. The veteran spinner bowled a wide delivery to Varma, who bit the bait and hit the ball in the air. Sam Curran came running in and seemed to lose the ball as he tripped and fell on the ground. To make matters worse, the ball went for a six as CSK fans in the stands were seen getting upset.

Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and chose to bowl first as the two teams with five IPL titles each got down to action. Mumbai Indians captain Suryakumar Yadav said that he would have batted first as well if he had won the toss. By the end of ten overs, MI were placed at 82 for the loss of three wickets.
Khaleel Ahmed rocks Mumbai Indians’ top-order
Rohit Sharma was out for a duck after facing four balls to endure a bad start to the season. Khaleel Ahmed making his debut for CSK dismissed the Indian skipper caught by Shivam Dube. Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks then played few attractive shots to add 21 runs from the second wicket.
Khaleel then got the wicket of Rickelton, who got inside edge back onto the stumps for 13 runs from just seven balls. Will Jacks was the next man out as he was caught by Shivam Dube for 11 runs to give Ashwin his first wicket of the day. Tilak Varma began his innings with two successive fours off Ashwin to signal his intent.
Suryakumar Yadav and Varma then batted with caution mixed with aggression. The duo hit boundaries at regular intervals to keep the CSK bowlers on their toes. Mumbai Indians are without skipper Hardik Pandya and pacer Jasprit Bumrah going into the game. Pandya is serving a one-match ban while Jasprit Bumrah hasn’t received his fitness certificate.
