Before we talk about the match, let’s take a look at an interesting incident which took place during the fifth over of the first innings. Renowned Cricket umpire, Marais Erasmus, was seen switching the bails at the non-striker’s end which reminded the fans of the recently concluded BGT 2024-25 series where both Indian and Australian players were seen switching the bails to turn the luck into their team’s favour.

However, the case was different this time, as the umpire had to switch the bails because the zing bails were not functioning properly. Erasmus attempted to fix the issue by switching them, but it had no effect. Eventually, he requested a change of equipment.

MI bowlers tore apart Sunrisers' batting lineup

Talking about the match, the Easter Cape won the toss and asked MI Cape Town to put runs on the scoreboard. MI didn’t have a great start as they lost their three batters on the score of just 42 runs. However, Dewald Brevis and Colin Ingram steadied the ship from there and constructed a 67-run stand for the fourth wicket.

Brevis played a destructive innings of 57 runs off just 29 balls including two fours and six towering sixes. In the end, Delano Potgieter gave the finishing touch while scoring 25 runs off 12 balls to help MI put 174 runs on the scoreboard. Richard Gleeson was the best bowler for Sunrisers picking up two wickets while conceding just 22 runs.

It looked like the Sunrisers would easily chase the target since they are the defending champions but it didn’t happen. MI’s Trent Boult did what he does usually, dismantled the top order Then, Potgieter stepped in and tore through the Sunrisers’ middle and lower order. He picked up five wickets while conceding only 10 runs in three overs. The Sunrisers were bowled out for just 77 runs, losing the match by a massive 97 runs.
