English pacer Jofra Archer, who spent a few seasons with MI, bore the brunt of Rickelton’s blazing blade. The 30-year-old had conceded just two runs in the first over of the game to give the home team a great start to the game. In the final ball of the 10th over, Archer bowled a short ball to Rickelton, who played a crunching pull shot that went deep into the stands.

Archer was brought on to bowl the fifth and gave 18 runs, which saw MI assume early control of the game. Rohit Sharma, who had survived a close LBW call earlier in the game made room and swatted the bowler over the top for a four. Rickelton then hit Archer for a boundary through the mid-on region to showcase his full range with the bat.

Having scored just 16 runs from the first three overs of the game, Ryan Rickelton got into the boundary-scoring act with a six off Fazalhaq Farooqi’s bowling. The left-handed batter first hit the Afghan pacer for a six over mid-wicket region and then followed it up with a four past the square leg region.

Maheesh Theekshana, who was bowling the sixth over saw MI batters hit him for 13 runs from the over. Rohit hit the Sri Lankan spinner for two boundaries in the first two balls of the over and then Rickelton joined the boundary hitting fun in the same over. By the end of six overs, Mi had reached 58 runs for the loss of no wickets.

The South African reached his fifty with a six in the fifth ball of the ninth over bowled by former MI spinner Kumar Kartikeya. In the same over, Rohit had played two delightful shots for two successive boundaries. MI openers put up the century stand when Rohit took a single on the first ball of the 11th over.
