Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad led from the front in the field to take a smart catch to dismiss Devdutt Padikkal. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were taking the attack to the opposition as Phil Salt and Devdutt Padikkal played a few attacking shots to score runs at brisk pace.

The incident in question happened on the fifth ball of the eight over with Ashwin bowling to Padikkal. The batter who was batting on 27 off 13 balls saw the delivery flighted outside the off stump and went for the drive. Padikkal couldn’t time the ball well as it sped to Gaikwad, who was fielding in the cover region.

Gaikwad went down low and took a smart catch as the umpires conferred with the CSK captain. Once the confirmation came that the catch was clean, the umpires gave the decision in favour of the home team. Padikkal hit two fours and two sixes in his knock before falling at a critical juncture.

Phil Salt continued his rich vein of form with the bat as he got stuck into the CSK bowlers early in the game. The English batter hit five fours and a six in his knock of 32 runs from just 16 balls. Noor Ahmad, who had picked up four wickets in the last game, got the wicket of Salt thanks to MS Dhoni’s fast hands that saw the batter stumped.

The opening wicket stand between Salt and Kohli saw 45 runs being scored in five overs. Devdutt Padikkal kept the momentum going as he struck boundaries at regular intervals. The second wicket stand saw 31 runs in just 17 balls before Padikkal fell to the amazing catch by Gaikwad.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli became the top run scorer versus theChennai Super Kings in the IPL. The right-handed batter needed five runs to go past Shikhar Dhawan, who had scored 1057 runs against CSK. Kohli was struggling at one stage to score runs before hitting Pathirana for a six and a four to find his groove with the bat.
