England batter Phil Salt came out all guns blazing in the eight game of Indian Premier League (IPL) om Friday. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter took on Chennai Super Kings’ bowlers and smashed them to all parts of the ground. in the very first ball of the game left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed tried to play mind games with the RCB batter.

Khaleel’s delivery saw Phil Salt play and miss at the delivery as the bowler had a chat with the batter. Both stood nose to nose but in the end both players had a smile on their face. Salt had the perfect reply when he hit Khaleel Ahmed for two fours in successive balls of the first over.
Earlier in the day, it was Ruturaj Gaikwad who won the toss and chose to bowl first. Chennai had come into the game on the back of their win over Mumbai Indians by four wickets. RCB on the other hand had beaten Kolkata in their opening contest by seven wickets. Both sides made one change as Matheesha Pathirana came in for CSK while Bhuvneshwar Kumar came into the side for Rasikh Salam Dar.
Phil Salt sets the early tone with the bat
CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad introduced Ashwin early into the attack as the veteran spinner was asked to bowl the second over. Salt welcomed the 38-year-old with a huge six and followed it up with a four. The final ball of the over saw yet another boundary of the over as 16 runs were scored of Ashwin’s first outing with the ball.
Khaleel Ahmed pulled things back in his team’s favor as gave away just seven runs from his second over. CSK burnt a review when the pacer seemed confident that he had got the wicket of Salt but the ball had pitched outside the leg stump.
Sam Curran was called onto bowl and the English seamer bowled an economical over to start his spell. Phil Salt had scored a tremendous fifty in the first game of the season against his former side Kolkata Knight Riders. The right-handed batter was one of the high profile purchases for RCB in the IPL 2025 Auctions.
