Indian Premier League’s (IPL) match number 38 saw Mumbai Indians (MI) take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday night. It was Chennai who were asked to bat first after MI won the toss and the visitors posted 176 runs on the board. Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja scored half-centuries to give CSK the late push with the bat. Rohit Sharma who has been struggling for runs began his innings in imperious fashion.

The former MI skipper took full on Jamie Overton’s short pitched bowling to play some vintage shots. In the fourth ball of the second over, Overton bowled a short ball that Rohit pulled straight past the backward square leg region for his first six. Wife Ritika was in attendance watching the game and that shot brought out a huge smile on her face.
Chennai Super Kings lost Rachin Ravindra early in to Ashwani Kumar’s first ball. Ayush Mhatre then took over as he smashed 32 off just 15 balls. Deepak Chahar got the wicket of the dangerous Mhatre caught by Mitchell Santner. At one stage CSK were struggling to score runs, but Dube and Jadeja took full advantage of some ordinary bowling from MI to take the score to 176.
Rohit Sharma powers MI to powerful start against CSK
Ryan Rickelton got the innings going for MI with two fours in successive balls of Khaleel Ahmed. The left-handed batter would have been out in the same over but none of the CSK bowlers appealed for LBW as the replays suggested the batter was clearly out. After scoring 10 runs in the first over, MI upped the ante with Jamie Overton conceding 11 runs in his first over.
Khaleel Ahmed had dismissed Rohit for a duck in the previous encounter. This time the former MI skipper didn’t show any mercy as he smashed the pacer for 14 runs with two fours and a six in the third over. Jamie Overton’s second over saw 18 runs being with two sixes, first by Rickelton, and then by Rohit in what was a costly over for CSK.
Introduction of Ravindra Jadeja did the trick for CSK as Rickelton went for a huge hit only to hole out to Ayush Mhatre in the deep mid-wicket region. Rickelton was out after scoring 24 runs off just 19 balls with three fours and a six. By the end of the first time-out MI were placed at 88 for 1 after nine overs needing 89 to win from 11 overs.
