Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Rohit Sharma showed glimpses of his amazing batting in the Indian Premier League (IPL) game against Delhi Capitals (DC). Rohit hit Mitchell Starc for 14 runs in just four balls to remind fans of the knock he played in the T20 World Cup last year. MI ended the third over with their score on 39 to get off their best start of the season.
Ryan Rickelton began the third over of the innings with a four off Mitchell Starc to the fine leg region and then took a single of the next ball. Rohit who has been dismissed by left-arm seamers twice this season played an amazing shot past the point region for his first boundary of the game.
The former MI skipper then tried to play the lap shot over fine leg and got a thick edge of his bat. The ball carried over the ropes for a six as the fans found their voice. In the final ball of the over, Rohit played one of his famous shots over the extra cover region for yet another four.
Mumbai Indians were asked to bat first after Axar Patel won the toss on Sunday. Ahead of the game, Delhi were placed top of the table while Mumbai Indians were on ninth. It is a must win game for MI as they have won just once from the five encounters this season. Delhi so far are unbeaten having won all their matches.
Ryan Rickelton blazes MI to fast start
South African wicketkeeper and batter Ryan Rickelton got things going for MI with two successive fours off Starc. The first boundary was a flick through mid-wicket while the next shot was a powerful shot through the covers. The left-handed batter then put Mukesh Kumar deep into the stands to register the first six of the game.
Mukesh bowled well in his second over and gave away just six runs which included a four off Rickelton’s bat. The South African star has been the only batter to notch up a fifty for MI’s top order during the current season.
