Chennai Super Kings (CSK) found a new hero in their Indian Premier League (IPL) game against Mumbai Indians on Sunday night. 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre thrilled the fans with his swashbuckling stroke play in what was his IPL debut. The youngster hit Ashwani Jumar for one four and two sixes to even bring a smile to MS Dhoni’s face.

Deepak Chahar was bowled out by Hardik Pandya after his impressive spell early. Ayush Mhatre was batting on 32 when he went for a big shot off Chahar and was caught by Mitchell Santner near the boundary. As the young CSK batter was walking back to the hut, Suryakumar Yadav could be seen patting the youngster on his back. Both Yadav and Mhatre play for Mumbai in the Indian domestic circuit.

The right-handed batter scored his 32 runs off just 15 balls with four boundaries and two sixes. Rachin Ravindra and Shaik Rasheed had added 16 runs for the first wicket in 19 balls. Ravindra tried to play a forceful shot after getting frustrated due to MI’s tight lines and lengths. Ashwani Kumar got a wicket with his very first ball to get the home team going.

The second wicket stand between Rasheed and Mhatre was worth 41 runs, which came off 22 balls. Once Mhatre was dismissed, MI bowlers began to tighten the screws as Ravindra Jadeja and Shaik Rasheed found the boundaries tough to come.

Rasheed was batting on 19 when Mitchell Santner beat the batter with his flight. CSK’s young batter left the crease and Ryan Rickelton did the rest as he whipped off the bails. Rasheed’s knock, which came off 20 balls, contained one four as CSK struggled to get going with the bat.

Hardik Pandya won the toss yet again and chose to bowl first at the Wankhede Stadium. Ahead of the game, MI started in the seventh spot in the table with six points from seven games. CSK are bottom of the table with just two wins so far from the seven games. MS Dhoni’s side hasn’t lost to MI in the last four meetings in the IPL.
