Team India came out all guns blazing in pursuit of Bangladesh scoring 233 on the board. Rohit Sharma in particular began with 2 sixes off two balls as India scored the fastest-ever fifty in Test cricket.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz was brought into bowl to curb the scoring rate by the Bangladeshi skipper. After being smashed for a four by Rohit Sharma, the bowler got things back into his control. The off-spinner hit the Indian skipper on his pads as the umpire gave him out LBW.

Rohit decided to go up for the DRS as the replays suggested that the ball was pitching outside leg stump. India’s skipper gave a frustrated sigh of relief but that didn’t stay long. In the very next ball, Rohit was bowled by Mehidy Hasan for 23 off 11 balls.
Yashasvi Jaiswal helps India set another record
Fellow opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a quickfire fifty to help India get off to a quick. After setting the record for the fastest team fifty, the home team raced to 100 in the 11th over. This was the new best for a team in Test cricket as the previous best came in 12 overs.
Yashasvi Jaiswal in particular played every shot in the book to put the bowlers on the backfoot. Najmul Shanto took a defensive tactic of placing most of the fielders on the boundary. Indian opener wasn’t fazed as he employed sweeps and reverse sweeps to unsettle the bowlers.
Shubman Gill himself wasn’t bogged down as he played a few delightful shots. One of his best shots was the reverse sweep against Mehidy Hasan. The right-handed batter had scored a century in the previous innings in Chennai.
There are more than 40 overs to go in the day with one more day to go. The tactics from India’s skipper have set the tone for an exciting finish to the game. The home team will look to score quick runs and put Bangladesh into bat again and let the bowlers do the job.
