Shubman Gill went on to slam a century in the second innings against Bangladesh in the 1st Test match in Chennai. However, in the first innings, he got out on a duck, leading to much criticism from cricket experts and fans. This isn't the first time he has failed to perform in the first innings. Talking about his performance, India's former player Sanjay Manjrekar took a dig at Gill and said, 'Cannot apply a cricketing reason to this.'

"I have no idea. I just cannot apply a cricketing reason to this. His Test career went off the rails slightly. He started very well against Australia in Australia - got a 90. After that, he had a few opportunities against not-so-great oppositions in India and didn't quite cash in, didn't get the big scores, and then had the tough tours. South Africa is never easy, and then came to India and failed in that Hyderabad Test," said Sanjay Manjrekar.

Shubman Gill's career started on a great note, turning him into 'The Prince of Indian cricket.' He's a talented young player who enjoys his game and works hard, regardless of the format. Moreover, because of his talent, he has now become the vice-captain in white-ball cricket.

Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant slam century in 1st Test match against Bangladesh

India's two young guns, Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill slammed centuries in the first Test match which helped the hosts win the game. After their centuries, India were able to post 515 runs as the target for Bangladesh which was too much for them to chase. Shubman scored 119 runs off 176 balls including ten boundaries and four sixes while Pant scored 109 runs off 128 balls including 13 boundaries and four sixes.

Apart from the batters, Ravichandran Ashwin did a fantastic job in the Test match scoring a century in the first innings and picking up a fifer in the second innings. These overall contributions were the reason behind India's magnificent win against Bangladesh. With the win, India retained their first spot in the WTC points table.
