Former England star player Moeen Ali made an instant impact for the Joburg Super Kings in their SA20 clash against the Pretoria Capitals. The 37-year-old left South African batter Rilee Rossow stunned in the very first over that he bowled. Faf Du Plessis called upon his former CSK teammate to bowl the seventh over.
Bowling from round the wicket, Ali got the ball to skid that knocked over Rossouw’s stumps. The batter was in disbelief as he was heading back to the hut for just one run. Moeen Ali also got the wicket of Marques Ackermann for two runs to end his night with figures of 2/21 from four overs.
Earlier in the day, Faf Du Plessis won the toss and chose to bowl first. The home team made three changes to their side, while Pretoria made just one change. Hosts Joburg Super Kings are second in the table with 8 points from two games. Pretoria are fourth in the table with 7 points from three matches.
Joburg Super Kings bowlers restrict Proteas to 138
Donovan Ferriera opened the bowling for the Joburg Super Kings and struck in the third ball of the game. Afghanistan batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz tried to hit the bowler out of the park but didn’t time the ball well. Imran Tahir settled under the ball and took a neat catch as Gurbaz was out for a duck.
Will Jacks and Kyle Verreynne then added 47 runs for the second wicket in 28 balls. The pair, especially Will Jacks, showed intent early on. Kyle Verreynne then took over the scoring as he smashed boundaries at will. The dangerous stand was broken when Evan Jones struck in his first ball to dismiss Jacks for 15.
Imran Tahir then got the key wicket of Verreynne for 39, which came off 31 balls with six boundaries. Liam Livingstone struggled to get going as he was out for 22 off 30 balls, falling to David Wiese. The final push with the bat was given by James Neesham, who scored 30 off 21 balls with three boundaries and a six to take his side to 138.
