There was controversy on the 4th day of the Irani Cup match between the Rest of India and Mumbai. In the 3rd ball of the 38th over, Tanush Kotian took off for a quick single as Sarfaraz Khan made it to the batter's end. One of the ROI fielders, threw the ball toward the wicketkeeper as Sarfaraz was hit on his back.

A few Rest of India players went up in appeal against Khan for Obstruction of field. The batter was deemed to have changed the line of his run. At first many thought the appeal was a casual one. Ruturaj Gaikwad though was serious as the two on-field umpires decided to send it upstairs.

The third umpire could be heard saying that Sarfaraz Khan’s act was unintentional and hence was given not out. Ruturaj Gaikwad though wasn’t pleased as he could be seen animatedly talking to the match officials.

Saransh Jain’s late burst gives ROI a slight chance

Mumbai started their 2nd innings with a lead of 121 runs. Ayush Mhatre and Prithvi Shaw added 52 runs for the 1st wicket in 7.3 overs. The two batters with Shaw in particular were aggressive right from the start.

Saransh Jain got the first wicket when he had Mhatre beaten in the flight. Dhruv Jurel pulled off an amazing stumping to send back Mumbai’s opener for 14. Hardik Tamore was the next man out as he fell to Manav Suthar for 7 thanks to a smart catch by Jurel.

Ajinkya Rahane departed for 7 having been given out LBW to Suthar. Shreyas Iyer could score only 8 runs as Jain castled him to get ROI their 4th wicket. The right-arm off-spinner then struck twice in quick succession.

Prithvi Shaw was beaten with a turn as he was out bowled for 76 off 105 balls. Two balls later Shams Mulani heard the death rattle as he was out for duck. At the close of play on the 4th day, Mumbai were placed at 153/6 with an overall lead of 274. Sarfaraz Khan was batting on 9 with Tanush Kotian on 20 off 26 balls with one four and a six.
