WATCH: Prithvi Shaw slams brisk half-century for Mumbai in Irani Cup 2024

Mumbai cricket star Prithvi Shaw scores a quickfire half-century for his side during the Irani Cup 2024 game against the Rest of India in Lucknow on Friday.

Out of favor Indian batter Prithvi Shaw came back to form with a terrific innings during the Irani Cup game on Friday. The 24-year-old slammed a quick fifty for Mumbai against the Rest of India to give the defending Ranji Trophy winners a massive advantage. The former Indian Under-19 skipper was out for just 4 runs in the 1st innings. 

Mumbai started their 2nd innings with a huge lead of 121 runs. Prithvi Shaw went after Mukesh Kumar who dismissed him in the first innings. The right-arm pacer was smashed to all parts of the ground with one particular cover drive standing out. 

The 24-year-old was batting on 65 runs from 63 balls at the time of writing with 8 fours and a six. Ayush Mhatre (14) and Hardik Tamore for 7 were the two batters to be dismissed. Saransh Jain and Manav Suthar picked the wickets with Dhruv Jurel playing a part in both dismissals. 

Tanush Kotian and Shams Mulani help Mumbai to huge lead 

Rest of India came to bat with Abhinav Eeswaran and Dhruv Jurel as the overnight batters. The two batters stuck together for 42 overs and added 165 runs for the 5th wicket. While Eeswaran was well past his ton, Dhruv Jurel was also looking to make a huge score. 

Shams Mulani changed the game in a space of two overs to give Mumbai the advantage. The left-arm spinner first dismissed Jurel when he edged behind the wicket for 93. His knock came off 121 balls with 12 fours and a six. Abhimanyu Eeswaran was out in the next over as he was caught by Tanush Kotian. The Bengal star batter hit 191 runs from 292 balls with the help of 19 fours and a six. At that stage Rest of India was placed at 396/6. 

Manav Suthar was the next man out as he was bowled by Mulani for 6 runs off 21 balls. Tanush Kotian then finished the Rest of India's innings in a space of 4 balls. Yash Dayal hit the Mumbai spinner for a huge six before he was run out. 

Prasidh Krishna was out first ball for a duck when he was caught by Sarfaraz Khan at a silly point. Mukesh Kumar came out to bat and was nearly caught by Shreyas Iyer in his first ball. Tanush Kotian then tossed up the ball and Kumar offered a simple return catch to end ROI’s innings on 416 with an overall trail of 121 runs.
