Indian coach Rahul Dravid ended his stint on a high after Rohit Sharma’s men scripted history. Team India won their 2nd ICC T20 World Cup title on Saturday by 7 runs in Barbados by beating South Africa in the final. It was also the first time in 11 years India had won a global title and 17 years since they had won the T20I World Cup title.

Once the presentations were done the entire team was seen giving Rahul Dravid the perfect send-off. All the members of the men in blue could be seen hoisting Rahul Dravid up and carrying him near the centre wicket.

It was an emotional moment for Rahul Dravid who is now set to step down as the Indian coach. It was under his tutelage that India had reached the finals of the World Test Championships, and the ODI World Cup 2023 finals. On both occasions though, India fell short and lost to Australia.

Rahul Dravid expresses delight after the win

Just after India had won the T20 World Cup, it came to light that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had decided to retire from the format. It was a perfect end for the duo along with Rahul Dravid as the trio had formed the fulcrum of the title win.

Virat Kohli handed over the trophy to Rahul Dravid who hoisted it above his head and was seen celebrating with glee. The Indian coach had come close to winning an ICC title in 2003 in the ODI World Cup before losing to Australia.

At the end of the game, Rahul Dravid was overcome with emotions and said “As a player I wasn’t lucky enough to win a trophy but I always gave my best. However, it’s part of the game. There are a lot of players I know who haven’t won a trophy”

The 51-year-old ended by saying “I was lucky that I was given the opportunity to coach a team and these bunch of boys have made it possible for me to win this trophy. It’s a great feeling but it’s not like that I was in for some redemption and it was just a job I was doing”
