Guyana Amazon Warriors registered a convincing win against Saint Lucia Kings in the 10th match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024. Kings could only set a target of 101 runs and Warriors’ crossed the finish line in just 10 overs, courtesy of Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s fearless batting.

Invited to bat first, the Kings got off to a horror start as they lost skipper Faf du Plessis cheaply in the second over. Wickets kept falling as none of the batsmen could find any resistance. It was pacer Keemo Paul who did the damage to the opposition’s top order.

The momentum was carried forward by captain Imran Tahir and Gudakesh Motie with their spin attacks. However, Matthew Forde’s 31 off 21 helped them touch the 100-run mark. Tahir and Motie took three wickets each, while Paul grabbed two wickets.

Gurbaz sets the tone right from the start

The pressure was already on du Plessis and Co. after getting out for a paltry score. Their predicament was exploited by Warriors' openers Gurbaz and Tim Robinson, who put on a 62-run partnership in 5.2 overs. Robinson departed after making 33 off 20 balls, and a couple of overs later, the Afghanistan batter also left the crease but ensured his team was in a safe position.

Gurbaz followed the template of his aggressive batting style right from the start. His incredible striking was on display in the third over of the innings against Matthew Forde. The over started with a massive six but the right-arm pacer managed to beat the bat on the next delivery. However, Gurbaz did not give up and sent the next three deliveries into the crowd.

This completely turned the game in favour of the Warriors but the right-hander didn't stop there. He continued his merciless hitting, and this time Khary Pierre was on the receiving end.

In the seventh over of the innings, Gurbaz smashed three sixes to bring the team closer to the winning line. He was dismissed in the next over, but his 47 off 19 balls helped the Warriors clinch a comfortable win by six wickets in 10 overs.
