Guyana Amazon Warriors won their second game in a row in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024. On Wednesday night, the Warriors beat Saint Kitts and Nevis Patriots in a high-scoring encounter, scoring 492 runs.

The highlight of the game was when West Indian batter Mikyle Louis smashed Imran Tahir for a huge six. The veteran bowler saw Louis smash the ball straight over the top for 107 meters which is the longest six of CPL 2024. The ball was hit with such power that it bounced off the top of the roof and came back into play.

With this win, the Guyana Amazon Warriors are joint the top of the table with Saint Lucia Kings. Barbados Royals and Trinbago Knight Riders have a win each after playing just one game so far. Antigua are bottom of the table winless after 4 games while the Patriots are second from bottom with just one win from 4 games.

Saint Kitts and Nevis Patriots fall short by 40 runs

Batting first, Guyana scored a massive 266 on the board. Afghan batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz began with 69 off 37 balls with 4 boundaries and 6 sixes. The best batter for the Warriors side was Shimron Hetmyer with 91 off 39 balls which included 11 sixes.

In reply, the Patriots were bowled out for 226 with 2 overs left to play. Andre Fletcher was the best batter for the home team with 81 off 33 balls with 4 hits to the fence and 9 sixes. Despite some promising performances by Sherfane Rutherford, Kyle Mayers and Mikyle Louis the home team lost the game.

Speaking at the end of the game. Imran Tahir said “I can expect anything from the team we have, that's the belief we have. We had to put the runs on the board and put them under pressure. Gurbaz showed his skills. Hetmyer and Keemo played well too. We just tried to put them under pressure like I said”

Home team skipper Andre Fletcher lamented on the loss and said “It was tough. Playing at home ground, knowing the conditions, bowling like this is not acceptable, looks like you are playing school cricket. Need to execute our plans as a bowling unit. Can't set fields when you leak runs on both sides. Their batters executed plans against our bowlers. The wicket is good for batting first and second, what plays a big role is who executes well”
