India clawed back into the contest during the second day of the final Test in Mumbai. The turning point came when Rachin Ravindra became the third wicket to fall. The left-handed batter has been one of the best batters for New Zealand during current series.

The incident happened in the final ball of the 14th over. Just after scoring a boundary in the previous ball, Ravindra went down the track. Ashwin beat the youngster in flight and was stumped by Rishabh Pant. It was a huge moment for India as they got their third wicket.

New Zealand had bowled out India for 263 with a slender lead of 28 runs. Ajaz Patel picked 5/103 to continue his fine form at the Wankhede stadium. Washington Sundar’s unbeaten 38 helped India go past the New Zealand’s total of 235 on the board.

Mumbai Test match evenly poised on second day

Akash Deep got India their first wicket in the second innings. The right-arm seamer dismantled Tom Latham’s stumps. New Zealand’s skipper was out for just one run. At tea the visitors were placed at 26/1 still trailing India by two runs.

Rohit Sharma decided to press the spinners after the interval and got immediate reward. Washington Sundar got the outside edge of Devon Conway’s bat as Shubman Gill took an easy catch. The Kiwi opener was out for 22 from 47 balls to give India the much needed impetus.

Daryl Mitchell who had scored 82 in the first innings came out fighting. The veteran Kiwi star took the attack to Indian bowlers and hit a six and a four. India would be looking to bowl out New Zealand for a low score and will want to chase a low score. The pitch has offering prodigious turn and bounce for the spinners.

Earlier in the day Rishabh Pant got the wheels in motion with a 36-ball fifty before falling for 60 runs. Ish Sodhi got his only wicket of the game to give New Zealand a huge wicket just before lunch. Shubman Gill was the best batter for India with 90 before he was out to Ajaz Patel caught by Mitchell in the slips.
