Australian speedster Pat Cummins became the 2nd ever bowler to pick up hattrick in T20 World Cup for his national side. The 31-year-old achieved this feat during the game against Bangladesh in Antigua on Thursday.

Brett Lee was the first Australian star to achieve this feat during the 2007 T20 World Cup. Interestingly, Bangladesh were the opponents when Brett Lee dismissed Shakib Al Hasan, Mashrafe Mortaza, and Alok Kapali in Cape Town.

Pat Cummins bowling the 18th over first got the scalp of Mahmudullah before dismissing Mahedi Hasan. When Pat Cummins got the wicket of Towhid Hridoy, the Aussie star completed his hattrick It was a special feat as Australia had to wait 17-years for a player to claim an hattrick in T20 World Cup history.

Rain stops play to halt Australia’s early charge

Chasing 141 to win, Australian openers Travis Head and David Warner began going after the Bangladeshi bowlers. After scoring just 5 runs in the first over, the Aussie batters hit Tanzim Hasan Sakib for 9 runs in his opening over.

David Warner hit Mahedi Hasan for a huge six but the Bangladeshi bowler pulled thing back into his control to give just 7 runs from the 3rd over. It was the 4th over of the innings bowled by Taskin Ahmed that changed the game.

Two fours and one six from the over swung the game in favor of Australia as 15 runs were scored of the 4th over. Even the normally reliable Mustafizur Rahman wasn’t spared as 13 runs came from his opening with Travis Head smacking for a four and a six.

The fifty came up in the start of the next over with a single by David Warner as 10 runs were scored from Mahedi Hasan’s 3rd over. Rain stopped play with the score reading 64/0 from 6.2 overs after Warner had just put Rishad Hossian to the boundary. When play was stopped the Aussies were 35 runs ahead of Bangladesh on the Duckworth and Lewis method.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh scored 140 from their 20 overs. Najmul Hossain Shanto with 41 and Towhid Hridoy with 40 were the best batter. Pat Cummins picked 3/29 with the ball while Adam Zampa continued his purple patch with 2/24.
