T20 World Cup: Bangladesh restricted to 140 after Australian star Pat Cummins claims historic hattrick

Group 1 match of the T20 World Cup, Super-8 stage match between Australia and Bangladesh was played in Antigua on Thursday night. Bangladesh ended up with a score of 140 as Pat Cummins picked a famous hattrick in then key encounter. 

The Australian star who captains the team in Test and ODI format, ended with figures of 3/29 from his 4 overs. Pat Cummins’ first wicket was that of Mahmudullah who chopped the ball back onto his stumps for two runs. 

In the very next ball, Cummins got the wicket of Mahedi Hasan who gave Adam Zampa an easy catch in the 3rd man boundary. The Aussie star though had to wait a while to get his moment as it was the end of the 18th over. 

In the first ball of the 20th over, Towhid Hridoy tried to play the scoop shot. The Bangladeshi batter could only end up offering Josh Hazlewood the easiest of catches. Towhid Hridoy was out for 40 but more importantly Pat Cummins had picked up his hattrick. 

Australian bowlers restrict Bangladesh to 140 

Mitchell Marsh won the toss and opted to field first as Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc were back into the playing XI. Bangladesh decided to bring in Mahedi Hasan in place of Jaker Ali for the kay game against Australia. 

Bangladesh were put under immediate pressure as Mitchell Starc bowled Tanzid Hasan for a duck in the 3rd ball of the match. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das added 58n runs for the 2nd wicket. 

Adam Zampa then came into the attack and bowled Das for 16 while the Bangladeshi wicketkeeper was looking to go for a sweep. Rishad Hossain sent to bat at number four could score only two runs as he was caught by Zampa off Glenn Maxwell. 

The Aussie leg-spinner got the big wicket of Najmul Shanto for 41 which was the best score for Bangladesh. His knock came off 36 balls with the help of five fours and one six. Young Towhid Hridoy was the anchor in the middle-order with 40 runs from 28 balls. 

Apart from Litton Das, Shanto and Hridoy only Taskin Ahmed with 13 runs was able to get into double figures. Needing 141 to win the game, the start of the chase was delayed due to showers for a few minutes as the covers were pressed into action.
