Pakistan's Asif Ali showed off his finishing prowess in a Global T20 Canada (GT20) 2024 match on Thursday (July 31). The Vancouver Knights batter slammed an unbeaten 36 off 17 balls on the back of three sixes and two fours to help his team reach a competitive total against Brampton Wolves.

Knights needed a fiery finish to conclude their innings on a decent note after batting first. Asif walked out to bat at no. 6 and showed his intent straightaway. The right-hander wreaked havoc mostly on Australian pacer Andre Tye as he smashed two fours and a six on three successive deliveries in the 20th over. His carnage helped them finish with 149 runs on the board.

Watch the video below:

Knights were in dire straits as they were reduced to 56-3 in 10.3 overs. Their top four batters struggled to find runs, including captain Usman Khawaja who scored 17 off 19 balls. Later, they were rescued by Asif and Richie Berrington, who supported the Pakistani star brilliantly with a 25-ball 38*.

Brampton Wolves register a comfortable win

Asif Ali’s blistering knock, however, went in vain as Brampton Wolves got past the target comfortably in 18.1 overs. Captain and opening batter David Warner provided a solid start (25 off 20) before getting run out in the fifth over. The Knights bowlers managed to pick up two more wickets but their middle-order batters did not mess up the proceedings.

Beau Webster and Nick Hobson remained unbeaten on 49 and 37, respectively, to steer them to a six-wicket victory. Scottish cricketer George Munsey’s 20 off 12 was also crucial in their win. There was only a moderate performance from the Knights bowlers because apart from Rishiv Ragav Joshi and Sandeep Lamichhane, who picked up one wicket each, no other bowlers managed to grab a wicket.

With the win, Wolves moved up to fourth in the points table with four points. On the other hand, knights who have not yet opened their account, are at the bottom.
