Rohit Sharma last week shocked the world when he decided to retire from the Test format. The 38-year-old was the Test captain of India during the last tour of Australia. The move comes after persistent bad form with the bat, forcing a rethink over Rohit’s place in India’s Test team. Last week, Rohit decided to announce his retirement from the red-ball format via a post on social media.

Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) put out a special video for Rohit after his Test retirement. MCA captioned the short video and wrote, “We still can’t get over it.” The 31-second video showed Rohit’s various moments in the longest format of the game. The video ended with a message saying, “Thank You, Rohit Sharma”.

Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Mr Devendra Fadnavis hosted Rohit Sharma and felicitated him for his contributions to India’s Test cricket. Former India star gives his views on Rohit and Virat’s retirement
Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin expressed his views on the sudden retirement of both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The 38-year-old himself had called it quits in the middle of the Australian tour post the Brisbane Test match last December. Ashwin took to his YouTube channel to give his views on the dual retirements.
The former Indian spin wizard said, “I retired in Australia, and I did not expect these two to retire back-to-back. Did Rohit have the pedigree to play 100 Tests? He must have. I believe that the time he missed, those 4-5 years before his debut due to that injury, he was unable to play those extra 30-40 Test matches."
“A small question arises in my mind regarding Kohli's decision. Maybe he had one or two more years left in him? Are his energy levels a reason for that? Maybe he must be thinking that he does not have the mental capacity anymore. Even when not playing personally his energy at mid-wicket or short cover is there in the team," added R. Ashwin
