There has been huge speculation about Mohammed Shami and his likely return. It isn’t still clear if Mohammed Shami will be passed fit for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The Indian pace ace wasn’t selected for the Duleep Trophy tournament which is set to begin in a few weeks.

Jay Shah the Board of Control for Cricket in India had earlier spoken to Times of India about Mohammed Shami. During the course of a chat with the newspaper, Shah said "Your question about Shami is right... he will be there because he is experienced, and we need him in Australia,"

Mohammed Shami eyeing domestic cricket return

Ever since the finals of the 2023 ODI World Cup, Mohammed Shami has been out of the game. The focus for the Indian side will be the huge three months of Test cricket which will see them host Bangladesh and New Zealand. This will be followed by the tour of Australia which begins in November. Shami had said that he would play few domestic games to get in shape and make himself ready for the season ahead.

Speaking to Times of India, Jay Shah also said “Our team is well prepared. We have rested Jasprit Bumrah for a while now. Mohammed Shami is expected to be fit too. This is an experienced Indian side now, seniors like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are fit”

Meanwhile, ESPNCRICINFO carried a report where Ajit Agarkar had said “We more or less know who the guys are, there are some injuries at the moment and hope they will be back up. Shami has started to bowl which is a good sign. September 19 is the first Test and that was always the goal. I do not know if that is his timeline for recovery, will have to ask the guys at the NCA about that."

Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin are the two other bowlers who haven’t been included in the Duleep Trophy teams. The likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli too have been given a rest to manage the workload with huge cricketing action coming up.
