Indian pace bowler Mohammed Shami posted a video on his social media handle that has left the fans excited. The 34-year-old posted a video on his X handle where he could be seen bowling at full tilt. Shami hasn’t played for India since the 2023 ODI World Cup finals against Australia at Ahmedabad.
The veteran Indian pacer wasn’t picked for the Australian tour as fitness concerns ended his hopes of playing in the BGT series. Shami has been playing domestic cricket for Bengal in recent times. The right-arm seamer has already played one Ranji match and followed it up with appearances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali and Vijay Hazare Trophy.

So far Shami has played two games for Bengal in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and picked 2 wickets. The 34-year-old has also been impressing with the bat, as he scored 42 not out off 34 balls against Madhya Pradesh with five fours and a six. With the ball, the veteran seamer dismissed Harsh Gawli for a duck to end with 1/40 from 8 overs.
Ravi Shastri lashes out after Mohammed Shami misses Australia tour
Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri has lashed out at the Indian team management for not including Shami even if he was 50% fit. During his chat with the ICC review, Shastri said, “To be honest, I was very surprised with the communication going on in the media as to what exactly happened to Mohammed Shami.”
The former India skipper and coach also said, “Where is he when it comes to recovery? He’s been sitting in the NCA for, I don’t know, how long. Why can’t proper communication come out on where he stands? A player of his ability, I would have brought him to Australia.”
“I would have kept him part of the team and made sure that his rehabilitation was done with the team,” Shastri added. “And then if we thought by the third Test match that no, this guy can’t play the rest of the series, I would let him go.” Added Ravi Shastri while speaking to the ICC review.
Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting seemed to agree with Ravi Shastri when he said to the ICC Review show, “I said 3-1 Australia because Shami wasn’t there. That was the first thing I said. That’s how important I felt he was to India. If Shami, Bumrah, and Siraj were in their starting team, things could have been completely different here in Australia.”
Ravi Shastri had the final word when he said, “You just needed that experience and support. For all you know, he might have raised the bar as well. And it would have been the two guys there, Bumrah and Shami. Pat Cummins couldn’t have done it on his own; Scotty Boland had to step in. So you needed a bowler of his experience. You know, as hard as Mohammed Siraj tried, you needed Shami’s experience there.”
