Former Australian cricketer Shane Watson expressed his views on India not visiting Pakistan for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. After several controversies, Pakistan finally agreed to have the tournament in a hybrid model, where India will be playing their matches in Abu Dhabi. As per Watson, it's always a special time when the neighbouring countries play against each other in ICC events.
"It's unfortunate that things worked out that way. But there's no doubt that what everyone loves is watching the India-Pakistan game. Whenever they come together, whether in ICC events, it's a really special time because we get a sense of what's on the line. From an Australian cricket perspective, we know how big the rivalry is between us and England. The India-Pakistan rivalry is just as huge. No cricket fan wants to miss that game. So, it's unfortunate that India aren't travelling to Pakistan for this Champions Trophy," said Shane Watson.
Due to safety concerns, the Indian government didn't allow the players to travel to Pakistan. The Indian team is an important member of the cricket circle, and hence, playing an ICC event without them isn't possible. The tournament will be filled with fun and excitement because the top teams will be in action.
Shane Watson reminiscing the time when he visited Pakistan
Australian legend Shane Watson spoke about the time when he went to Pakistan to play the PSL in 2019. He received a warm welcome from the people and carries the memories with him until now. He mentioned that he is happy to see them getting to host an ICC event like the Champions Trophy.
"I got a small opportunity to play in the Pakistan Super League in 2019, the first time after playing there in 2005. It was one of the highlights of my career. To go to Pakistan after a long time and see the love and joy they have for cricket was incredible. They were starved of world-class live cricket," added Watson.
