Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has come out and made a huge comment about Virat Kohli’s batting form. The 36-year-old had managed to score a mere 190 runs during the recent tour of Australia. 100 off those runs came during the second essay of the opening game of the tour.
Ponting said, “You can see the disappointment on Virat Kohli's face when he got out at SCG Test. He was so angry with himself the way he got out the same way. Yeah, disappointing series for him. But I am sure there's still plenty of runs in store down the track for Virat."
After the end of the series on Sunday, there are massive questions on Kohli’s future in Test cricket. Irfan Pathan openly lashed out at the 36-year-old after his sustained poor form. There are reports that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli could be spoken to about their futures in the longest format of the game.
Ricky Ponting praises Jasprit Bumrah for his efforts
Former Australian captain and legendary batter Ricky Ponting has lavished huge praise on Jasprit Bumrah. The 31-year-old picked 32 wickets in the series before a back spasm ensured that he wasn’t able to bowl in the second innings of the SCG Test on Sunday. Bumrah had picked three fifers on the tour with a best of 6/72 that came at the Gabba.
Speaking to the ICC Review show, Ponting said, “No doubt, it’s probably the best series of fast bowling I have seen. Yes, they had good conditions, the fast bowlers, for most of the series. But when you watched Bumrah bowl compared to anyone else in the series, he made batting look so harder”.
Ricky Ponting also said, “There’s a lot of quality batting in the Australian top-order as well but Bumrah made all of them at different times look silly.” For all his efforts with the ball, Bumrah was named as the player of the series. The 31-year-old also stole the show as a captain when he led India to the famous win in Perth. With Bumrah out of the picture, Australia won the SCG Test by 6 wickets to regain the BGT on Sunday.
