Express pacer Mark Wood announced his return to Test cricket in style. The English cricketer has been stunning the West Indies batters with his fiery deliveries during the ongoing second Test of the three-match series. Wood bowled fastest over by an England bowler since 2006 and later broke his own record.

Captain Ben Stokes made the first bowling change in the 10th over on Day 2 at Trent Bridge, bringing Wood into the attack. It was expected to be a warm-up over but the speedster didn't take long to make an impact. Though he failed to pick up any wicket, the right-arm pacer clocked all six deliveries at over 92 mph.

His first delivery hit almost 94 mph, and opener Mikyle Louis managed to get two runs off it. The very next delivery came in at 96.1mph along with swing, and Louis had no clue how to tackle it. However, he went on to bowl one more at 96.5mph to claim the record for fastest over by an English bowler at home since the records began.

It didn't take long for Wood to rewrite his record. The 34-year-old broke the record by bowling the fastest third over, clocking every delivery at 93 mph, with one delivery even hitting 97 mph. Wood bowled a nasty short ball against Lewis at 156.2 kmph. With no choice but to leave, the Windies batter was left stunned.

Talking about the match, West Indies managed to make a strong start as they played out 14 overs of the new ball on a good batting track. In his third over of the series, Shoaib Bashir gave the hosts the breakthrough by dismissing Mikyle Louis. They claimed two more wickets before lunch. West Indies are still trailing by 279 runs with seven wickets remaining.

Earlier, Ollie Pope's scintillating century (121 off 167 balls) saw England post 416-10 in the first innings. Half-centuries by Ben Duckett and captain Ben Stokes were also decisive. England won the first match of the series and led by 1-0.
