For the first time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, Mumbai Indians (MI) batters got off to a great start. Ryan Rickelton got into the groove early in the game and scored 41 runs from just 25 balls. The left-handed batter hit five boundaries and two huge sixes in his knock. Just when Rickelton was looking set for a big score, Kuldeep Yadav got the key wicket for Delhi Capitals.

On the fourth ball of the eighth over, Rickelton went looking for a cut shot as the ball spun in sharply. The batter saw his middle stump on the floor as the Delhi player ran to congratulate the bowler. It was a key wicket for Delhi, as Mumbai batters had started the game well and were scoring well above ten runs per over.

Rohit Sharma finally showed glimpses of his old form when he hit Mitchell Starc for 14 runs in four balls. The 37-year-old hit Starc for two fours and a six before he was out LBW to Vipraj Nigam while going for a sweep. The umpire didn’t give the bowler a decision in favour. A DRS review then saw the TV umpire spot that Rohit was out LBW.

Delhi Capitals bowlers stage tremendous comeback

The first wicket stand between Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton was worth 47 runs, which came off five overs. Suryakumar Yadav came to the crease and got going with a huge six and added 28 runs for the second wicket with Rickelton in 16 balls. Tilak Varma, who had scored a fifty in the last game, began his innings with a four off Kuldeep Yadav.

Just as the stand was developing, Kuldeep dismissed India’s T20I skipper for 40 off 28 balls caught by Starc. The right-handed batter hit five boundaries and two sixes in his knock. Vipraj Nigam then got the wicket of Hardik Pandya for two runs when MI’s skipper was caught by Tristan Stubbs.
